Conquering Your Triggers — Part Two
Today’s blog will specifically focus on internal coping strategy techniques to conquer our triggers. My question is what triggers your anxiety first thing in tomorrow? What triggers your stress in the afternoon? What ends up making you feel depleted in the evenings — leaving you depressed?
What internal coping strategies have worked for you to conquer your triggers? I have deliberately used the word conquer because I want you to overcome your triggers. I don’t want it ruling your life. I don’t even want it dominating and pushing you around day to day. At the end of reading this blog post, my desire and hope from you to show you trigger you mean business and to show them who is boss over your life. Why should you triggers wreck your day or prevent you from living life more abundantly and to the full.
We mentioned in the Conquering our Triggers blog — part one that a trigger can be thought, a memory, a reminder, feeling, that can re- create negative emotions of fear, anger and hurt.
There are many recommended ways to conquer your triggers. Choose the one which works for you and gives you the results you need.
Triggers start in the mind. I am sure you have heard the TFAR formula, ‘the way you think — T , is the way you feel — F, the way you act — A, which causes current results — R and circumstances you are facing in life. There is indeed an element of truth in this formula. If you think back to your recent break-up as an example, you start feeling the hurt again from the betrayal. You then start withdrawing and then you start distancing yourself from opportunities to make new friends. Can you see the downward spiral caused by this thought trigger?. Remember you are victorious, you are an over-comer and you are not going to allow that thought to bully you and drag you down again. If a thought comes up again in your mind about the betrayal, take that thought captive, and start thinking of ways how you have emerged from this setback stronger and wiser, and how you are beautifully, fearfully and wonderfully made. Think how your unique and amazing self is a dream come true for someone. You are making a positive difference in the lives of others. The best is yet to come and you have a hope, purposeful destiny and a future — ahead of you. Conquer the trigger today by the renewal of the mind.
